Online Degree Admission Requirements

Once you’ve completed your online application, you’ll be asked to supply supporting documents like transcripts, test scores, or a personal statement. The types of documents vary, so read on to find the admission requirements for online students: undergraduate, Bachelor of Nursing, graduate, and international students. Choose the one that describes you.

Online Undergraduate Students

Recommended High School Coursework
Mount Mercy applicants are encouraged to complete the following high school coursework.

  • 4 years of English
  • 3 years of mathematics
  • 3 years of social studies
  • 3 years of science

Academic Requirements
All students are required to meet a minimum GPA standard and provide official transcripts.

  • Non-transfer students: Cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Transfer students: Cumulative college-level GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Transcripts. Official transcripts from all secondary schools previously attended.

If you are under the age of 23 and have not attended college or have fewer than 12 graded semester hours of college coursework, you will also need to provide your scores on one of the following standardized tests:

  • ACT. Minimum composite score of 20 with sub-scores of 17 or higher.
  • SAT. Minimum composite score of 940.

Exceptions
Any student who does not meet the above criteria will be evaluated on an individual basis by the Admissions Committee.

Bachelor of Nursing (RN-to-BSN) Students

Academic Requirements
All students are required to meet a minimum GPA standard and provide official transcripts.

  • Degree or diploma. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing from a regionally accredited college.
  • Cumulative college grade point average (GPA). Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Conditional admission. Students with a GPA of less than 3.0 may be considered for conditional admission.

Nursing Credentials
All students are required to meet a minimum GPA standard and provide official transcripts.

  • License. Current, active RN license.
  • Employment. Employed at least half-time in the nursing field.
Online Graduate Students

Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree. Awarded by a regionally accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution outside of the United States.
  • Cumulative college grade point average (GPA). Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Conditional admission. Students with a GPA of less than 3.0 may be considered for conditional admission.
  • Personal statement. Please provide your reason for pursuing graduate work in the field you have chosen. Please provide your reasons for pursuing graduate work in the field you have chosen. We are particularly interested in the following points:
    1. What previous academic, professional, or personal experiences will make a contribution to your pursuit of a graduate education?
    2. What are your chief objectives in applying for graduate education?
    3. Why is Mount Mercy’s graduate education program a good fit for your interests?
  • Transcripts. Official transcripts from all schools previously attended, even if courses were not completed.
Online International Students

Academic and Other Requirements
Mount Mercy University is proud to include international students from over 22 countries amongst our student and alumni base. We require our online international students to meet the same academic requirements as our other online students. See above for requirements for undergraduate, Bachelor of Nursing, and graduate student admissions requirements.

Transcripts
International students must have their transcripts evaluated by an independent third party transcript verification company such as World Educational Services or International Consultants of Delaware, Inc.

U.S. Visas
International students in the U.S. cannot enroll in an online degree program to fulfill the legal requirement for an F-1 or J-1 visa.
