The Sisters of Mercy opened Mount Mercy Junior College—a two-year women’s institution—on September 9, 1928, offering low-cost Catholic education.
After receiving accreditation from The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Mount Mercy became a four-year college in 1960.
Mount Mercy officially offered education for both men and women in 1969.
By 1997, adult students were welcomed into the ADVANCE program, a partnership with Kirkwood Community College.
The institution was redesignated as Mount Mercy University on August 23, 2010.
Mount Mercy University is still led by the same strength, courage, and determination to give students the education they need to obtain the careers they want.
You’ll be paired with a success coach throughout your MMU online program. They’ll provide you with constant support and can connect you to people and resources who can also help.
